mom and dad -- making stuff for our baby!

Here it is...
we bought a glider rocker on craig's list for 40 bucks and mom covered it beautifully!
Complete with a sweet lil elefante!

Gow is proudly rocking Abby- my cabbage patch doll. =)

You can see that one side of the cushions are of pink persuasion -- for our lil princess thats coming. My brilliant mother made the other side of the cushions blue-- should a lil GowanitO come later on. ( or if we want to put the rocker somewhere besides the baby's room).

Here's mom's handy work on our bedroom curtains- THANKS MOM!

Having curtains totally adds to our apartment- making it WAY more cozy and homey.

We all went to the Grand Ol Opry on Friday night!
We saw Joe Diffe, the Riders in the Sky, the Grascals a surprise appearance by Vince Gill who happened to swing by back stage- and some others.
We all really enjoyed the Grascals-- bluegrass!

One of the Grand Ol Opry Greeters... nice hat!

sorry- super bad focus on this... but it's dad putting up our curtain rods... these two hardly slowed down while they were here. They may have retired... but they certainly aren't slowing down a bit!

Gow- being the supportive, loving husband that he is.... was empathizing with me... look at his face... he FEELS prego!

Here is a closer look at the curtain material-- and a SCARY look at me!

These are the lil matching pillows mom made... and my eskimo doll that Auntie Karen made for me as a little girl!

hmmm.... how would one title this pix?

daddy in training?

teehee...

(yup- i had to persuade him to let me POST this pix.)

This is hysterical.... we were playing the game Rigamerole!
If you haven't played this... you MUST!
Jen and Rissita gave it to us last Christmas.... it is SOO fun and TOTALLY different from any board game I have played.

Gow and Dad had a "challenge" -- crouching, they had to both hold on to the sock with their left hand and pull/tug until one lost his balance.
Dad won!

Gow and Dad walked to the store for milk while mom and I were cooking... and they came home with flowers and trees for us! What ROMANTICS! =)

mom- thanking dad for the tree! wink wink!

notice below... mom laughing so hard that she is crying! (yes, remember Grandma DV and her laughing bouts!)

Dad- and his AWESOME toy box!
It is Apple Red and large enough to hold TONS of toys!
(siso, I will take a pix INSIDE of it shortly for ya!)

When we were little, Dad made us one just like this!

That's it for pix with my folks.

As you can see... it was a GREAT time!

This week has been cleaning, laundry, packing, baking more Christmas goodies, another Big Idea Christmas party and tonight.... delivering presents to our "adopted latino family"!

I am 22 weeks along now.... over the half way mark! and my belly is to the pooooooooooooooooooooching out!
Seriously--- I look like a square now... no shape.. just a square.

I will take pix tonight to show ya'll... if I am lookin like this at 22 weeks... what in the WORLD will I look like at 40 weeks?!?!?!

side note-- for all my buddies out there that are prego, will become prego or have ever thought about being prego... buy a BELLY BAND! a wise women recommended to me... and so far.. it's great! let's you wear pre-prego pants.

K. this is huge long.
love ya'll!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

The Charles Dickens Christmas Festival with Mom and Dad

Last Saturday we headed to downtown Franklin. (This is the town we live in- it is ritzy and quaint all at the same time)
It was the Charles Dickens Christmas Festival with characters from Dicken's novels walking the streets.

Here we are with Father Christmas

This man was playing Christmas carols on wine glasses filled with water... he said it took him ten years to master it!

There were various street performers.. some SUPER talented, and others... not so much.

Lunch was a big ol turkey leg for and brats!

This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience... we bought roasted chestnuts and sugar plums!
There is a very obvious reason why we only sing about these "treats" and no longer produce them.... they were YUCK.
The sugar plum was like a prune rolled in about an inch of sugar.
Bless dad's heart.... we would buy the smallest portion of these "treats" to try and he would end up with ALL of it as we tasted and then passed it off to him with our noses turned up.

This is the Ghost of Christmas Past.

Sunday and Monday were record breaking hot days here.... I think the high was 76!
So we picnic-ed and played bocci ball in the park.

To all my siblings out there... dad no longer has his half golden tooth!
Here is his new smile!

it was warm and beautiful!

Of course we went to tour the studio....

we have been baking up a storm and mom has been sewing tons.
will post pix on that soon....

good news - mom and dad got to swim after all!
Dad discovered that the pump had been fixed and our indoor pool is open!
So they have swam a few times!

we are currently enjoying a lazy SUnday afternoon.
Gow and Dad are watching football and mom is resting (was sewing a cover for our new baby-rocking chair).

Will post more pix soon...

love to you all and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

What do Rudolph and Veggies have in common?

Well, not much really. But I'm very proud to say that between the four of us (Dave, Kathy, Laura and I........and we might as well throw in the little one as well), we successfully wrote what I'm sure will be the winner of the "Write a funny Veggie song to the tune of a Christmas Carol" contest.
Here's the back story: the Penguin's team orders lunch for the several of the staff members a couple days a week, often from a deli that always puts in a little pickle with each order...most of the staff doesn't care for the pickles, so there became an un-official contest to see who could hide a pickle in the boss' office without him discovering it for the longest time. Coincidentally, "the Boss's" name is Chris...and he rides a scooter to work.

And so, without further ado, I bring you, "Barry the Shriveled Pickle": (to the tune of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer)

You know Junior, and Laura, and Pa Grape, and Larry...
Bob the Tomato and Madame Blueberry...
But do you recall the most famous Veggie of all?

Barry the deli Pickle, had an ordinary name,
Snuck in the boss's office, seeking out a life of fame.
Juicy and well hydrated, hidden by the Penguins' team,
Waiting to be discovered, any little pickles' dream.

Bob and Larry saw the kid...gave him some advice;
"Win the eye of 'the Scooter Guy'...he's the one to take you high!"

'Cuz of so many deadlines, ' Pickle's efforts were denied;
Chris always on the cell phone, Barry shriveled up and DIED!

I'm incredibly proud of such a beautiful piece of art coming out of our family's home.

We are open to feedback if you feel so inclined.

In other news: I (Gow) am excited to say that I'm (sort of) being promoted at work. With pre-production on all 20 Penguins' shows almost finished (meaning, we've delivered almost all of the storyreels to the animators), and since we've been receiving shows back from the animators every couple of weeks, I'm being moved to "post-production" editing. That means that I take the frames that are delivered to us (we receive a targa file, which is a picture file, for every frame in the entire show) and assemble them into video files and place them in a timeline that conforms to television broadcast standards (that's about 32,000 picture files for each show, so it's quite a job to assemble them into a video timeline).
So basically, they are hiring me to be a "file herder," if that's a word. I'm learning how to be incredibly organized (at least trying to be), and even though I haven't officially started the position yet, I'm already learning scads about some fundamental details of broadcast and video.
So, we're excited at this new opportunity (my contract will be extended a couple months), and grateful for God's faithfulness. Big Idea is a pretty great place to work...we're thankful for it.

In other other news, I've switched over from regularly seeing a chiropractor to regularly going to physical therapy...and I'm glad to say that I'm actually feeling some improvement in my neck and back. I've gotten some very specific exercises and stretches to do at home, which is what I've been looking for for years....so I'm quite optimistic about that.

Laura and I heard the heart beat of our daughter again at the doctor's yesterday. Strong as ever. And our guest room is starting to look more and more like a baby room. Quite exciting I must say.
Dave and Kathy have been an enormous blessing to have...as always. Dave's toy box that he made is awesome (apparently it's a replica of the one he made for the kids in Alaska before Laura was born). It's fun. And Kathy has been hanging curtains all over the apartment...
It's fun enough just to have them around, but everything that they do for us while they're here is downright incredible.

Well, back to work. So many pictures to assemble...so little time.

Arrivederci, ciao.

Warm Christmas Greetings to You All... and do i mean WARM

Hello everyone!

Yesterday it was 76 degrees here in Nashville!
Can you believe it?

Mom and Dad went on a picnic at the park- hiked up to Fort Granger (there are tons of Civil War Battle sites in our area). It is soo warm - it hardly feels like Christmas!

But I want to wish you all GOOD TIDINGS OF CHEER! =)

It has been GREAT to have mom and dad here! Super fun to just be together-- and we are trying to soak up as much adult-conversation time as possible as the next time we are together... there will be a child! =)
WOW- WHAT A THOUGHT! =)

Last night's activities consisted of Gow and I admiring the Cherry Red toy box that dad is making and the Pink curtains mom is making for our baby girl!

Then we had a nice dinner followed by a wee bit of game playing and then we attempted the "Famous Gowan Almond Roca"!
It was fun to have everyone in the kitchen-- it seriously took all 4 of us to keep the candy from burning -- we had sucess! =)

This weekend we are going to the Grand Ol Opry with mom and dad!

I am 21 weeks prego and our lil girl is around 16 ounces ... I am officially wearing prego pants all the time now. it's crazy. I don't have a huge pooch yet- but my pre- prego pants were all hurting my belly.

Okay- that's a short update...

Check out this News Clip on Veggies- it aired about a month ago- but is pretty good.

Gow will blog some about the things God is doing at his work... PROVIDING! Praise Him!

k- love ya'll and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Good night for now from Nashville....

Saturday, December 8

helping Neal and Cyndie move into their new Wisconsin home....

Some men from mom and dad's church came to help unload...

Timmy and Emma helped with unwrapping some of the furniture... Timmy ran around saying.. "we have lots of work to do!" and Emma helped point out which rooms some of the items needed to be delivered.

then they settled down with mom (Cyndie) for some movies.

My brother, still in California mode- wearing shorts, it snowed the next day. =)

My momma- so happy to have her grandchildren all so near.

Now all the cousins live within 1/2 of each other...
